GEO
Generative Engine Optimisation.
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is the practice of earning your business a place in AI-generated recommendations. When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini who to hire, the engines assemble an answer from sources they trust. GEO makes your business one of the names in that answer.
Where AI recommendations come from.
AI engines lean on directories, review platforms, press coverage, community threads and published rankings far more than on any single website. So GEO is one part on-site (evidence-dense, citable pages) and one part off-site (getting you into the sources engines quote). We work both, and we report which sources are feeding answers about your market.

What a GEO engagement covers.
- A prompt-set baseline showing who AI recommends in your market today and which sources it cites.
- Citable on-site assets (statistics, credible sourcing, question-shaped structure).
- Directory and review placement in the sources that feed your queries.
- Press and earned-mention strategy, because brand mentions correlate with AI visibility around three times more strongly than backlinks.
- Entity consistency across your site, profiles and schema.
- Monthly tracking against the same fixed prompts.
Ongoing GEO programmes run inside a growth partnership, and the foundations come with every website package.

FAQ
Frequently asked.
What is GEO in marketing?
GEO stands for generative engine optimisation: earning visibility inside the answers generated by AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Where SEO targets a ranked list of links, GEO targets the written answer itself, through citable content and presence in the sources AI engines trust.
How much does GEO cost in the UK?
Most agencies will not answer this. Our standalone GEO work is billed at £95 + VAT an hour against a scope we agree with you first. AI search foundations are included in every Roddy website package from £350 + VAT a month, and ongoing GEO programmes are scoped as a growth partnership. Start with the free Cited scan and you will know what you need before spending anything.
Does GEO replace SEO?
No. AI engines retrieve from search indexes and from crawled pages, so the technical and content quality work of SEO underpins GEO. What changes is the target: citations and recommendations rather than rankings alone. We run one programme covering both rather than billing them separately.
How do you measure GEO?
Against a fixed set of real buyer prompts, run monthly across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, recording whether you are named, where, and which sources are cited. Alongside that we track AI referral traffic in GA4 and enquiries that mention AI tools. You see the same scoreboard we do.
Why does GEO matter for a small business?
Because the recommendation layer is still wide open. Research on local business queries shows AI answers are assembled from thin directory pages and a handful of roundups, and consumers using AI for local recommendations jumped from 6% to 45% in a year. Early, well-evidenced entries win a disproportionate share of answers.
