What does SEO in Cardiff actually involve?
Good SEO for a Cardiff business has three layers. Most sites that underperform are missing at least one of them.
Local SEO
This decides whether you appear in the map pack, the three businesses Google shows with a map for searches like "electrician Cardiff" or "accountant near me". Google says local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence, that more reviews and positive ratings can help, and that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. So the work is practical:
- Google Business Profile: the right primary category, services, service areas, photos, posts and accurate hours.
- Reviews: a simple routine for asking every happy customer, and a reply to every review.
- Location pages: genuine pages for the areas you serve, each with something specific to say.
- Citations: your name, address and phone number identical across the directories that matter.
National SEO
If you sell across the UK, the map pack matters less and content depth matters more. We build service pages and articles that answer what buyers ask, and earn mentions from credible sites.
Technical SEO
Speed, crawling, indexing, structured data and internal links. When this layer is broken, nothing else performs properly. It is also the part most owners can't see, so I explain every change we make.
How does an SEO engagement with Roddy Digital work?
- Audit. We review your site, your Google Business Profile and the searches your competitors are winning. You get a plain-English summary of what is holding you back.
- Fix the foundations. Technical issues, page titles, site structure, GA4 and Search Console tracking, and your profile.
- Build what is missing. Service pages, location pages and content that answer real questions.
- Earn trust. Reviews, citations and relevant local mentions.
- Report on enquiries. Each month you see rankings and traffic and, most importantly, the calls and forms that came from search.
Our calls run on Zoom and are recorded, so every decision is on file. You are also welcome to meet us at the Pontcanna office by arrangement.
Where does AI search fit alongside SEO?
Search has changed quickly. Ofcom reports that around 30% of searches now include Google's AI Overviews, and 53% of UK adults say they often see them. People also ask ChatGPT and other assistants for recommendations directly.
The good news for Cardiff businesses is that the work which ranks you on Google is most of what gets you cited by AI. Clear service pages, consistent business details, genuine reviews and structured data help in both places. AI search is part of every SEO engagement we run, and our page on AI search in Cardiff covers it in more depth.

How much does SEO cost in Cardiff?
Here is what our SEO costs, followed by what the wider UK market charges, so you can compare like for like.
| Option | Investment (plus VAT) |
|---|---|
| Google Business Profile management | £95 a month |
| Demand & Content: Signal | £450 a month |
| Demand & Content: Traction | £850 a month |
| Demand & Content: Flywheel | £1,500 a month |
| Website package with on-page SEO foundations | From £350 a month |
Demand & Content packages have a 3-month minimum. Every website package (Kickstart £350, Accelerate £650 and Launch Pad £1,000 a month) includes on-page SEO foundations, GA4, Search Console and Google Business Profile set-up from launch.
For context, a June 2026 study of 45 published UK SEO prices from 16 providers found a median entry tier of £447 a month, a median of £799 across all prices and a median top tier of £1,500. The study notes that published prices lean towards the budget end, because many larger agencies don't publish theirs. If a quote sits well below that range, ask exactly what will be done each month.
How do you choose an SEO company in Cardiff?
Google publishes its own advice on hiring an SEO, and it is worth ten minutes of your time. It states plainly that "no one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google". Here is how I would vet any provider, including us.
Red flags
- Guaranteed rankings, or money-back promises tied to positions. Nobody controls Google's results.
- Secrecy about the work. If they won't say which links they build or what they change on your site, walk away.
- Unsolicited emails warning that your site has "critical errors". Google itself tells you to be wary of these.
- Reports full of rankings for terms nobody searches, with no mention of enquiries.
- Grey areas over ownership. Your Google Business Profile, Analytics and Search Console should stay in your name, whoever you hire.
Questions worth asking
- Can you show results for a business like mine, with real numbers?
- Who will actually do the work, and will I speak to them?
- How will you measure success, and what do you expect to see, by when?
- Will you explain every change you make and why?
Why work with Roddy Digital on SEO?
I have spent fifteen years in websites and digital marketing, starting in sales and often running business development inside marketing roles, including work on brands such as Vodafone, Sainsbury's, Airbus and LVMH. That background shapes how I approach SEO: a ranking only matters if it brings in work.
- Founder-led. I lead every engagement, so you deal with the person accountable for the result.
- Based in Cardiff. Our office is at 11-13 Penhill Rd, Pontcanna. We work with clients on Zoom, and you are welcome to visit by arrangement.
- Site and search under one roof. We build websites too, so technical fixes never wait on another supplier.
- Proof from Cardiff. Our work for a Cardiff pest control firm is set out below, with the numbers.
What is different about SEO in Cardiff and South Wales?
Cardiff is the centre of a wider market. The Cardiff Capital Region is a partnership of 10 councils with 1.5 million residents, and plenty of Cardiff businesses serve customers from Bridgend to Newport and up the valleys.
That matters because distance is one of Google's local ranking factors. A plumber based in Llanishen can struggle to appear in the map pack for someone searching in Penarth. Location pages are how you compete in the areas you genuinely serve, and they only work when each one says something real about that area: the jobs you do there, how you reach customers there and reviews from people nearby.
That is the thinking behind the twelve location pages on the Pest & Property Solutions site. Copy-and-paste town pages are a different story: Google's spam policies name pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page as doorway abuse.
