What do you get with a Roddy Digital website?
Every package includes the same foundations: design and build, copywriting, on-page SEO, GA4 and Search Console, Google Business Profile set-up, hosting, SSL, security and backups. Here is how a project runs.
- Kick-off call on Zoom. I ask who your best customers are, what they search for and where your enquiries come from today. We agree the full scope, usually a page per service and, where it helps, pages for the areas you cover.
- Design. You see the home page on mobile and desktop, give feedback, and sign it off before we go further.
- Development. We build the site and its content management system in a private staging area.
- Population. We write and add the inner pages, copy and imagery, so every page answers a real question and ends with a clear next step.
- Go live. We test everything, set up tracking and your Google Business Profile, and launch within 30 days.
- Training and aftercare. You get a training session and video tutorials so you can make edits yourself, and we host, secure and back up the site.
How much does a website cost in Cardiff?
UK price guides put a freelance-built website at roughly £500 to £10,000 and an agency build at £3,000 to £30,000 or more (source). Cardiff quotes sit inside those ranges. The spread is wide because "a website" can mean a small brochure site or a full ecommerce platform.
Our packages spread the cost over a year, with everything included:
| Package | Monthly (+ VAT) | Pages | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kickstart | £350 | Up to 10 | Sole traders and small firms with a handful of services |
| Accelerate | £650 | Up to 25 | Growing businesses with several services or areas |
| Launch Pad | £1,000 | Up to 50 | Firms that need service and location pages at scale |
To be straight about it: Kickstart on its twelve-month term comes to £4,200 + VAT over the year. That is more than the cheapest freelance quote and less than many agency builds, and it covers copywriting, hosting, security and backups, which you should check are included in any quote you compare it with. Optional add-ons: a blog at 2 articles a month for £220 or 4 for £400, and Google Business Profile management at £95 a month.
Freelancer, agency or package: which should a Cardiff business choose?
A freelance website designer
A good freelancer can be the best value in Cardiff for a simple site. You deal with one person, and the cost is usually lower. The risk is that one person covers design, development, copy, SEO and support, so check what happens when they are busy or away, and who writes the words.
A web design agency
An agency brings a team and more capacity, which matters for complex builds, integrations or ecommerce. You usually pay a larger sum up front, and the person who sold you the project may not be the person building it. Ask who your day-to-day contact will be.
A website package
A package fixes the scope, the price and the timeline. It suits owners who want a professional site that brings in enquiries without a large upfront bill, and who want hosting, security and updates handled for them. It is the wrong choice if you need a heavily custom platform; for that, see website development in Cardiff.
My honest rule of thumb: if your website only needs to act as a business card, a freelancer is fine. If it needs to bring in work every week, choose whoever will show you the numbers from sites they have built and commit to that goal in writing.
How do I choose a website designer in Cardiff?
Whoever you choose, ask these before you sign.
- Can I see results, with the client named? Enquiry numbers tell you more than screenshots.
- Who writes the copy? If the answer is you, budget the time or the cost.
- Who owns the domain, the site and the content? Get it in writing.
- What does it cost over a full year? Include hosting, licences, updates and support.
- How will people find it? Ask about service pages, Google Business Profile and how the site shows up in AI assistants such as ChatGPT.
- Who do I call when something breaks? You want a name and a number.
If a provider struggles with any of these, keep looking. That includes us.
What should a Cardiff small business website include?
Most Cardiff buyers land on your site with one question: can this business help me, and how do I get in touch? A website that answers it quickly needs a few things in place.
- A page for each service. One general services page rarely ranks for anything specific.
- The areas you cover, said plainly. If you work in Penarth, Pontprennau and Pontypridd, say so with something useful about each.
- A phone number you can tap. Plenty of local enquiries start on a mobile.
- Proof close to the call to action. Reviews, named clients and photos of real work.
- A contact form you have tested. Send a test enquiry after launch and check it arrives.
- Tracking from day one. GA4 and Search Console show which pages bring in work.
You can get all of that on a modest budget, as long as the site is planned around how your customers search.
Why does local search matter so much for Cardiff websites?
Cardiff is a crowded market to be found in. The wider Cardiff Capital Region is home to 50,000 local businesses (source), and Cardiff Council describes the city as the UK's fastest-growing (source). More people means more searches, and more firms competing for them.
Most of those searches still start on Google. Ofcom reports that 82% of UK adults use Google Search, and that about 30% of searches now show an AI overview (source). A Cardiff website has to rank in the local results and give AI tools clear, factual answers they can quote.
In practice that means a page for each service, clear areas covered, consistent business details, and reviews working alongside the site. It is how Pest & Property Solutions now gets most of its enquiries. You can test your own site with our free Cited AI visibility check.
Why work with Rhodri and Roddy Digital?
I founded Roddy Digital in 2021 after fifteen years in websites and digital marketing, including work on brands such as Vodafone, Sainsbury's, Airbus and LVMH. I started in sales, so I judge a website by the enquiries it brings in.
I lead every project personally. You speak to me on Zoom from the first call to launch, and you are welcome to meet at our office at 11-13 Penhill Rd, Pontcanna, by arrangement. We are an AI-first agency: we use AI to research, draft and test faster, and we check everything before it reaches your site.
Our recent web work runs from a Cardiff pest control firm to Apila PM, a London construction project management consultancy. See more on our work page or our main website design service.
